Jim Duggan v Big Bubba. Ok. Brawl outside. Evad’s rabbit is there. Duggan tapes his fist for DQ. Bubba has a rash from the rabbit. Awful.
Taskmaster promo. If Hulkamaniacs win War Games, Hogan gets him.
Sept. 3, 1995 WCW Main Event
Eric Bischoff & Bobby Heenan at Mall of America hyping Nitro debut. Heenan rants about Mongo. Hyping up Jushin Liger a lot. Flair versus Sting. Hogan versus Bubba. Big TV card compared to your normal fare. Waited LATE to promote the actual card for what it’s worth.
Sept. 4, 1995 WCW Nitro #1 - Minneapolis, MN (Watch)
The opening is killer and iconic. A huge upgrade from the usual WCW fare. Eric Bischoff and Mongo host. Bobby Heenan shows up. Go right into action.
Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Flyin' Brian. A blast and a great way to kick off the new show. Liger’s representing New Japan Pro Wrestling making the promotion feel international. Pillman has new gear for the the occasion. I like that Mongo refers to WCW as a league. They hit a bunch of flashy moves and Pillman wins. There hasn’t been anything like this on WCW TV this year. Recommended.
Sting does a quick promo on facing Flair tonight. They haven’t been involved at all but it’s a natural matchup for a new show
Hulk Hogan’s in Pastamania! Cuts a pasta pun filled promo on facing Big Bubba tonight. Bubba hasn’t been doing much but it’s obvious they’re trying to appeal to wider audience
WCW United States Heavyweight Title Sting (c) vs. Ric Flair. Fun play the hits type version of their match. The big hock is that Lex Luger walks out of the entrance before the match. It takes the fans a moment to notice and start chanting Luger. Flair and Sting sell it well. Stunned that Lex is back in WCW. Bischoff wants security to throw him out. This is very reminiscent of the Scott Hall debut the next year even though they didn’t go the outsider route with Lex Luger. The crowd is red hot for Sting. Arn Anderson gets involved for a DQ when Flair won’t break the figure 4 in the ropes. Crowd pops big at Arn going after Flair. Flair bails. Recommended.
Scott Norton comes to ringside. He's got a signed contract. Yells at Mongo. Norton coming off like a bad ass. Randy Savage gets in his face. Wondered when he'd get here. Savage wants him. Norton comes off great here.
Sabu is coming. Have some clips from tapings.
WCWSN hype: Badd v Slater. Sting & Savage v Blue Bloods. Fall Brawl Update.
Mr. Michael Wallstreet is coming. Taped promo. Dollar sign jacket. The new generation is in the few generation and that's why he's here in WCW. The best wrestlers are in WCW. Sure the IRS will be watching him close. Get it?
WCW World Heavyweight Title Hulk Hogan (w/Jimmy Hart) (c) vs. Big Bubba Rogers. Decent match. Hogan gets a mixed reaction. Bubba and Hulk work a nice house show type match that Hulk wins with the legdrop. The Dungeon of Doom attack Hogan. Luger cleans house and has a huge standoff with Hogan. Feels like big money. Sting and Savage get in between them with Hogan telling Lex to go back where he came from. Luger’s been waiting a long time for this. Luger chants!
Gene gets in the ring for comments. Luger here for one reason only. Hogan. The only World Heavyweight Champion. Been where he's been. Beaten the same people. Sick and tired of playing around with kids. Here to play with big boys. He's gonna get his shot. Hogan shows him the WCW Title. Hogan puts him over. They don’t have to wait. Just shake his hand and he'll give him a shot next week in Miami. Shake on it. Shove a little. HUGE. Recommended post-match. Setting up that match for next week on TV is big Nitro energy from the start
Bischoff hypes up next week. Mongo with his dog.
The pacing and feel of this show was electric. It felt alive from start to finish in a way WCW hasn’t felt. A total home run of a show.
Sept. 9, 1995 WCW Worldwide
Sgt Pittman interview on Cobra. Tells a story about a rattlesnake.
Arn Anderson interview on his background with Ric Flair. Be a man. Recommended.
Cobra squash
Flyin Brian interview on Badd match
Emotional Hulk Hogan video on Son of Andre from WCWSN. Must see Hogan BS.
Fall Brawl Control Center: Flair and Arn do quick promos
Vader squash
Taskmaster promo. Not afraid of Hogan. DOD is united. Can't trust men who want what he has
Johnny B Badd interview on Pillman match
US Champ Sting v Shark. Ok short match. DOD in for DQ. Hogan, Savage, and Vader save Sting with Heenan screaming about War Games.
Sept. 9, 1995 WCW Pro
WCW World TV Champ Renegade squash
One on one with Erin Anderson, wife of Arn! Very rare. Talks about how different Ric is. Arn shows up upset at the bloodsuckers. Great stuff. Recommended.
Fall Brawl Control Center: Flair and Arn quick promos
Taskmaster squash
Kurasawa squash
Ric Flair v Brian Pillman. Never happens. There’s commotion backstage. Arn and Ric are arguing. Ric leaves. Pillman wins by countout.
WCW US Champ Sting v Bunkhouse Buck. Ok. Sting wins. Slater attacks after and Savage helps Sting. Sherri’s out kissing Col Parker again. Funny.
Sting and Savage post match promo. Savage has chills. Dream team for War Games.
Sept. 9, 1995 WCW Saturday Night
Nitro is the big talk throughout the show
Vader two-on-one squash. Last Vader appearance taped.
Cobra squash. Post-match interview. Pittman gets in his face. Has classified information. These two exist in their own world.
Diamond Dallas Page squash. Diamond cutter. Post-match interview. Coming for TV Title.
Dungeon of Doom squash. Dungeon video saying Hogan’s team wants what they have. Tease dissension.
Johnny B Badd v Dick Slater. Decent match. Sherri out after Parker again. Harlem Heat help Badd win.
Flyin Brian PIllman squash. Post-match interview on Badd match.
Sting & Randy Savage v Blue Bloods. Fun short match. Sting’s wearing Macho’s gear! Incredible. Macho elbow wins it. There’s lots of speculation about The Giant in this.
Taskmaster interview. Gene calls him the head of the Legion of Doom by mistake. Sting and Savage confront him. Sullivan wondering if they can trust Vader. He came from the Dungeon of Doom. Stirring up trouble. Vader walks up and Sting asks him face to to face where he stands,
Dusty Rhodes is returning to WCWSN soon with Heenan doing Nitro.
Sept. 11, 1995 WCW Prime
Tim Horner v Mark Starr. Ok competitive match. Mark wins.
Sept. 11, 1995 WCW Nitro #2 - Miami, FL (Watch)
It’s a smaller arena but they open up shots with Miami making it look big time. Bischoff’s hyping up Hogan and Luger tonight as the match of the century. First look at the unique Nitro announce position. The big news is that Vader is AWOL and out of War Games to cover for his firing.
Sabu vs. Alex Wright. Fun debut for Sabu and good follow up on Pillman/Liger. Sabu wins and puts Wright through a table after. Nick Patrick reverses the decision.
Ric Flair in-ring interview with Gene Okerlund. This is WCW Nitro to me. Gene holding court with Naitch. Arn was missing from the party last night. He was busy calling his wife. They used to rule world. Lex Luger walks out in his gear. Flair hypes up The Total Package. Some things never change. Lex leaves. This is so alive compared to what they’d been doing. Recommended.
WCW United States Heavyweight Title Sting (c) vs. VK Wallstreet. Decent match. Michael is now VK this week. Sting gets a big reaction again. Bischoff’s ripping RAW and Shawn’s superkicks. Mongo calling it uncooked eggs. Heenan doesn’t say anything. Sting thrives on the live energy and makes this decent. Sting wins.
WCWSN: Debut of Disco Inferno. Pillman v Wright
Randy Savage vs. Scott Norton. Good match and follow up from last week. Savage matches Norton’s intensity. Dungeon of Doom comes out and Shark gets knocked out onto Norton. Savage wins with the elbow. Clever finish. Norton’s upset with Shark. DOD is even weirder in this setting. They don’t fit the vibe at all.
WCW World Heavyweight Title Hulk Hogan (w/Jimmy Hart) (c) vs. Lex Luger. Ok five minute match. Luger looks great and better than Hogan. Both do some no selling. Feels like a big money main event. Bischoff rips Diesel on commentary. Luger racks Hogan and lets go thinking he won. Hogan hulks up and hits the big boot and a legdrop but DOD in for the DQ. Sting and Macho make the save. DOD not touching Luger. They transitioned the dissension storyline from Vader to Luger.
Gene gets in the ring for comments. Love that. Luger and Hogan yelling at each other. What side is Luger on? Sting steps in and says this is the team. Savage thinks Luger will stab him in the back. Sting votes Luger in! Savage wants to know why Dungeon didn’t touch Sting or Jimmy Hart. Savage votes no. Hogan’s torn but votes yes. Luger will step up but wants a title shot down the line. Really good intrigue here and themes that would become commonplace on Nitro. Recommended.
They took a lot of shots at WWF all night long on commentary. The big stars carrying the hour. Bischoff was good in his role as lead announcer and promoter knowing the big direction. Good follow up to last week.
Sept. 16, 1995 WCW Worldwide
TV Champ Renegade squash
Tony and Bobby talk about Flair and Arn. Fall Brawl
Blue Bloods squash
Brian Pillman interview on Badd match
Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting, Vader interview. Run a crawl news flash of Luger replacing Vader.
Johnny B Badd squash
Taskmaster squash
Arn Anderson interview on Ric Flair. Everyone except Flair knows they’re equals in the ring. More good stuff.
Replay the Arn and Flair brawl from the Sep 16 Pro
Ric Flair v Steve Armstrong. Good real match. Steve brings it and Flair gives him some. Flair wins.
Sept. 16, 1995 WCW Pro
US Champ Sting squash
Jim Duggan promo. Taped fist grade A ham. Funny.
Paul Orndorff meets with a psychic. Recommended.
American Males squash. First appearance. Win with a double dropkick
Taskmaster squash. Meng has new mask
WCW World Tag Team Champs Stud Stable squash. Really haven’t done much as champs.
Slater and Buck cut a promo upset at Col Parker. He’s lost his hat to Sherri.
Arn Anderson v Jim Duggan - Taped Fist Match. No match. Flair attacks Arn and they brawl to the back.
Sept. 16, 1995 WCW Saturday Night
Alex Wright v Brian Pillman. Good snappy match. Lots of chops, uppercuts, and nearfalls. Pillman wins with a backslide. Badd and Pillman faceoff after.
Sept. 17, 1995 WCW Main Event - Live Pre War Games
Ric Flair interview. People come out to party or fight. Arn broke the code. Gotta look greatness in the eye now. Recommended.
Eddie Guerrero v Alex Wright. Good Nitro opener type match and great to see Eddie arrive. Bischoff puts him over strong. Mixed reaction to Wright. Some Eddie chants from those who know. Eddie’s offense pops. The way he slips into a nice back suplex. The slingshot senton. Eddie chants pick up as it goes. Eddie “hurts” his knee bumping over the top. Wright helps him up and there’s a double countout out of sportsmanship. Eddie looked real good here. Much needed if they want to continue with the Nitro style of TV.
Nasty Boys v American Males. Ok match. There’s a lot going on here. Riggs is a good partner for Bagwell. Sherri’s out scouting. Parker gives her flowers. Nasty Boys take the flowers. Dick Slater hits Knobbs and Bagwell gets the pin.
Sept. 17, 1995 WCW Fall Brawl 1995 - Asheville, NC
Big opening. Two title matches and two main events. Lex Luger has returned from behind enemy lines! Again there’s a lot of WWF as the enemy stuff starting here
Tony and Bobby host with news that The Giant destroyed Hogan's motorcycle on Main Event
Johnny B. Badd vs. Brian Pillman - US Title Shot. Very good match. Michael Buffer does the intros. Badd gets a good reaction and Pillman gets a lot of boos. He’s morphing into his Loose Cannon look. The winner faces Sting on the September 30th, WCW Saturday Night. They take their time to start. Pillman’s tentative. The story is that Pillman’s outmatched and gets more heelish throughout. Heenan mentions he saw footprints of The Giant out back and thought he was a Yeti. Is that where they got that from?! Badd’s eye gets busted at some point. Gives some hard shots back. Really have the people on the nearfalls as the 20 minute time limit expires. They go to sudden death and this part is great. There’s a big mid air collision and Badd wins to a big reaction. Badd feels like someone who should move up the card and Pillman desperately needs change. Recommended.
Ric Flair interview. Flashes the symbol of excellence. Cuts another really good promo on Double A. The real Flair is fully back after the cartoon character version that faced Hogan.
Cobra vs. Sgt. Craig Pittman. So bad it’s funny. Pittman comes down from the ceiling, sneaks up on Cobra and chokes him out. Wins with the armbar in the like two minutes. Hilarious. Recommended.
Paul Orndorff is with psychic Gary Spivey
WCW World Television Title The Renegade (c) vs. Diamond Dallas Page. Ok not totally horrible thanks to DDP. He does some goofy selling for Renegade. He’s not that over with this crowd, though. Max Muscle holds Renegade’s leg down and thankfully DDP is the new TV champ. Diamond Doll seems miffed that DDP won.
WCW World Tag Team Titles The Stud Stable (Bunkhouse Buck & Dick Slater) (w/Col. Robert Parker) (c) vs. Harlem Heat (w/Sister Sherri). Solid match but nothing too much. Parker and Sherri get in second ring. Nasty Boys attack Stud Stable. Harlem Heat regains the gold. Parker and Sherri didn’t notice. She tells the Heat it was all to help them. Gene gets comments from Stud Stable. Buck wants to know what’s wrong with Parker. He calms things down. He’s serious about Sherri.
Halloween Havoc is coming
Arn Anderson interview. Show a history package. A nervous wreck. Gotta trade fists with someone he loves. GREAT promo. Recommended.
Arn Anderson vs. Ric Flair. Great match that worked really well within the storyline. About thirty minutes. This was much more of an Arn paced match. Arn wears the nerves. Flair gets a big initial pop and the boos. He looks subdued. Neither really wanted it to come to this. Show wrestlers watching the audience. There’s a great face-to-face and a good smart with Arn smacking Flair in the mouth. Again he’s trying to bring out the best version of Ric Flair. They hook me right in. Arn’s a step ahead. Flair’s going to have to find something down deep. I like that Arn’s not fooled by Flair’s usual tricks or offense. Finally Flair switches it up and pulls down the ropes causing Arn to crash over the top. Flair comes off the top to the outside! Having to change things up. Dig deep. Very cool. Now that the tide has turned, it’s Flair who has the DDT scouted. They build to a strong back and forth. Flyin’ Brian gets on the apron and nails Ric!! Ric hits him back and Pillman kicks him in the head. Arn hits the DDT and wins! This was a great piece of business. Arn proved he could match Flair in the ring, got him to bring out the best version of himself, and then outsmarted him with the Pillman turn.
Dungeon of Doom promo. Giant’s monster truck crushes Hogan's prized Harley Davidson given to him by fans. The pre-match video with dramatic music is pretty funny. The spirit is there, they just need to have good stuff to plug in.
Hulkamaniacs interview. All camo'd up. Drank a couple gallons of agent orange. Crazy Survivor Series vibes here. All being nuts flexing and screaming. Recommended.
Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Randy Savage & Sting vs. The Dungeon Of Doom (Kamala, Meng, The Shark & Zodiac) (w/The Taskmaster) - War Games. Decent enough because they at least followed the War Games format. Sting’s insanely intense. Luger gets a big pop. Hogan gets another mixed reaction. It’s the real War Games cage with the low ceiling. Sting and Shark start well enough. DOD have the numbers. Macho gets a big pop coming in. Luger has the crowd going nuts when he comes in. He just feels right in WCW. The crowd dies whenever DOD have control. Hogan’s the last one in and he’s throwing powder. Submits Zodiac with a camel clutch. The Taskmaster is forced back in after for Hogan to beat up. That’s a set up for The Giant coming out and getting Hogan. Luger, Savage, and Sting rush back out. Sell it like Giant broke Hogan’s neck. Giant looks very impressive.
Alright show with two high end matches and some funny bad stuff. We’re back into similar territory as earlier in the year where Hogan’s doing his own thing separate from the vibe of the rest of the promotion.
Sept. 18, 1995 WCW Prime
Scott & Steve Armstrong v Barrios Brothers. Decent basic match. Barrios are a solid team. Armstrongs get a little promo. Barrios actually win!
Dave Sullivan v Johnny Swinger. Bad. Hacksaw KOs Swinger with a taped fist
Sept. 18, 1995 WCW Nitro #3 - Johnson City, TN
Bischoff, Mongo and Heenan. First time they’ve done a live PPV follow up. There’s an emergency in the back. The Giant gets out of an ambulance. He’s destroyed Hogan three times. The one true immortal. Talking about his Father Andre again. Goofy.
WCW World Tag Team Titles Harlem Heat v American Males. Fun match. It was supposed to be Blue Bloods but they get beat up by Harlem Heat and they take the match. Booker has good presence on the mic. Fast start and has that anything can happen on the show feel. Bischoff starts talking about K1 in regards to Booker’s kicks. Heat work really well in these shorter TV sprints. Col. Parker comes out after Sherri and Bagwell upsets Booker! American Males are new champs. Very shocking result.
Savage Slim Jim ad
Gene brings out Ric Flair. Arn broke the code at Fall Brawl. He brought an outsider into forbidden Horsemen land. Broke the code twice. Gonna chop Pillman so hard then he’ll find AA. WOOOO. Good babyface Flair promo.
WCWSN: Sting v Regal and more
Johnny B. Badd v Mr. Wonderful. Fun match. New entrance for Orndorff with the song. Lots of energy for Badd. Paula chants. Badd is the perfect Nitro wrestler. Orndroff steals the pin.
Footage of Savage on set of Baywatch. Taskmaster attacks. Flair helps Macho!
Gene brings out Randy Savage. Big pop. Tells Flair thanks but no thanks. That’s consistent. Going to take Taskmaster’s head off. Says Hogan’s a bad judge of character, Feels Luger cheap shotted him intentionally. You’re either with him or against him. Predicts Luger, Sting, Jimmy Hart will join Dungeon of Doom. Luger out quick. Wonders if Macho is jealous or wants Hogan’s belt? Another personal agenda. Savage confirms he’ll be champ. Luger here to play with the big boys. They want to fight. Love this. Big stars interacting. Recommended
Main Event footage of Giant destroying Hogan’s harley with a monster truck
Ric Flair v Flyin Brian Pillman. This was good. A natural followup from Fall Brawl. Flair goes right at him and takes the entire match, winning with the Figure Four. Pillman barely touched him…
Flair wants Arn next Monday
Announcers close pushing Hogan update on SN. Next week Macho v Sullivan, Meng v Luger, Wright v Disco, Kuraswa

Sherri takes us to her dressing room. Slater and Buck are sneaky. Funny segment..
Ric Flair v Mark Starr. Flair squash. Dusty’s gonna be going after Heenan on WCWSN.
Cruise interviews Flair. People think he’ll retire but no. He’s never looking back. Always wants to be in the ballgame. Out here to ask for help versus Arn and Pillman. Only one man he considers to be his equal - Sting. He wants Sting to be his partner. Sting comes out. Flair shows respect. Sting doesn’t think he’ll ever change and the answer is no chance. Crowd pops at that. Great segment. Recommended.
Harlem Heat v Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck. Ok match. Parker screws up and Heat win.
Sept. 23, 1995 WCW Saturday Night
Cobra v Sgt Craig Pittman. Good little brawl with Cobra getting his payback. Pittman runs away.

Arn Anderson & Brian Pillman v Steve & Scott Armstrong. One of the best Worldwide matches of 95. Pillman’s heel turn is a breath of fresh air for him. Armstrongs were fun. Steve throws a great clothesline. Arn wins with DDT. Recommended.

Cobra v Sgt Craig Pittman. Not much to this. Pittman rolls through a crossbody and wins. Will face Kurasawa on Nitro

Alex Wright v Disco Inferno. Decent fast paced match. Alex does some high flying. Disco gets heat. Wright wins with a backslide.
Hulk Hogan promo in a neckbrace with Jimmy Hart. Gonna take out The Giant. Thought it was over. Monster Truck Challenge and WCW Title match at Halloween Havoc. He gonna lay him to rest next to his father in Michigan. Insane promo. Hogan saying that he now killed Andre at WrestleMania 3 basically. Recommended.
Gene brings out Randy Savage. Luger out quick again. Lack of respect. Wants to go to war for mutual respect. Challenge for next week. First time ever. If Lex doesn’t win, he’ll leave WCW. World Title shot is on the line. Savage makes the deal. Good stuff again. Week to week progression.
Havoc: Hogan v Giant.
Kurasawa v Sgt Craig Pittman. Fun match with Kurasawa throwing Pittman around. Kurasawa wins with a bridging german suplex.
Arn Anderson & Brian Pillman with Gene. Pillman in full heel mode now. Flair begging like slime. Right to bear arms and hospitalize anyone. Arn says the better man won. Flair can't get a partner. What goes around comes around. Good promo. Recommended.
WCWSN: Sting/Badd.
Randy Savage v Taskmaster. Ok. Zodiac attacks Savage and Savage throws the ref down for the DQ. Elbows Zodiac anyway. Giant comes out and gets a big star reaction. Choke slams Macho! Takes out some jobbers. Alex Wright too. Crowd is hot for this. Luger slowly comes out and Heenan is wondering whose side is he on?! Luger gets chokeslammed. Taskmaster’s upset. More intrigue. Recommended.
Lex Luger v Meng. Decent match. Meng gets the jump on a damaged Luger. Meng has Dungeon of Doom gear now. He uses the golden spike and just wins. A bit shocking.
Next Week: Hogan, American Males, Nastys, Dean Malenko!!, Savage/Luger
Decent episode with the Luger/Savage intrigue being the highlight.

Big Bubba v Jim Duggan. This was ok. Two vets. Duggan doing the taped fists gimmick. VK Wallstreet takes Duggan’s 2x4 and Bubba nails Duggan with an object for the win. They’re giving these vets something to do at least.
WCW TV Champ Diamond Dallas Page v Eddie Jackie. This was fun! Jackie got some upset spots in this before DDP used the Diamond Cutter to win. Post-match interview. Good vibe. Top contender to the US Title. Also wants Badd’s shot if he’s a no-show.
Ric Flair v Frankie Lancaster. Flair squash. Quick promos from Flair and Arn for Nitro. They’re hyping up Nitro as a PPV level card.
WCW US Title Sting v Flyin Brian. Badd’s still not arrived so Pillman takes his spot. Fun match with Sting winning. Post-match interview. Sting’s feeling good. Flair approaches again asking for Sting to be his partner. Sting says no. Flair says they can change history. Sting says no chance! Sting definitely doesn’t come off dumb to this point.
Johnny B Badd arrives at the end with a flat tire. DDP calls him stupid. Max Muscle slips up and mentions FOUR FLAT TIRES. Badd KO punch. Decent redo of a classic angle.
Hope you enjoyed Part One! In Part Two, I’ll share a full recap of the month, my overall takeaways, and my “best of” picks with links. Stay tuned!
